What qualifications do I need ?

Doctors:
In order to work on the Mountain Course or the Billown Course, a doctor needs to hold a full registration with the GMC, and a License to Practice. In order to get and maintain a License to Practice a doctor has to have a Designated Body and be subject to revalidation. There is no specific postgraduate qualification required, but it is the duty of any doctor to ensure that they are working within their sphere of competence. In this situation, as a minimum that would mean having knowledge of first aid and resuscitation/basic life support. Although not essential, we would also recommend that you attend an appropriate training course such as Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS), a Pre-Hospital Emergency Care (PHEC)course, or a Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) course. There are a variety of roles within the team requiring differing levels of experience, so provided we understand what your experience is, we can usually find an appropriate role.

If you currently work outside the UK, and are not registered with the GMC, you would need to contact the GMC to find out whether they can issue a temporary registration.

If you are an FY2 doctor, holding full GMC Registration, you can work outside your Designated Body provided that it is with the approval of your Educational Supervisor. Your ES may require more information about the nature of the work, and the support that you will receive whilst doing that work, before giving their approval. We are happy to provide that information for you to pass to your ES. If this is something you are interested in, please get in touch with us for further advice and information
.

Paramedics:
In order to work with us as a Paramedic you need to be a State Registered Paramedic, registered with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC).Most Paramedics working within the NHS will have appropriate experience of dealing with pre-hospital emergencies.

Nurses:
In order to work with us you need to be registered with the Nursing &Midwifery Council (NMC), and you need to have experience relevant to the role you will be performing. In order to be working out on the course, this would typically mean experience in emergency care. However, there are other roles within our team such as working with our team of researchers, or carrying out medical examinations on riders that would be suitable for people with a different background. If you are unsure whether your experience is suitable for you to become a member of our team, please contact us, and we will be able to advise you.

Physiotherapists:
In order to work with our team of physiotherapists, you need to be registered with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC). If you want to find out more about working with us, please get in touch and we will put you in touch with our lead Physiotherapist.

Medical Students:
As a medical student, you would not be able to work on the Mountain Course or the Billown Course, although there are some limited opportunities for Medical Students who are on placement at Nobles Hospital Please get in touch with Jonathan Davies for further guidance on how to apply, by emailing jonathon@mrms.im.

Please Note:
Anyone who registers to work with us will be asked to provide evidence of their experience (C.V) as well as evidence of certain elements of Mandatory Training. All of the necessary information regarding this is provided during the registration process.

Please bear in mind that if you volunteer to work with us and have to deal with a significant incident on the course, you will be supported by an experienced medical crew, either in a helicopter or response car (depending upon the location).
